About Me


My name is Manuel Odeny, a skilled Kenyan journalist. Currently I’m a correspondent with the Star newspaper writing generally on hard and soft news, and features. The Burning Splint is my personal blog which I started as an undergraduate student at Maseno University in 2009.

I also correspondent in other news sites and publications, in my spare time I’m a poet and cartoonist.

Official Bio

I was born and raised in Kenya and as a Kenya journalist and an African blogger, my area of interest is gleaning info and passing it over to the mass in a simpler version to spur development. I strongly believe in the power of knowledge and words.

I’m a graduate of BA (Hons) Communication and Media Technology with IT. I have published OpEds in Kenyan the Star, Daily Nation, The EastAfrican, Standard, People and Business Daily.

I have had journalism stints at Kenya News Agency (KNA) and Vice President Press Services (VPPS) covering Hon. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, the Kenyan VP and legislator from Mwingi North.

Hobbies:
Writing, watching action movies, blogging, poetry, Reading African stories/journals and making friends.
